In honor of the jubilee thirtieth edition of Herceg Novi April theater festivities, on Wednesday, April 30, starting at 8:30 p.m., on the stage of the Park Hall, the theatrical magic of the play "Giving Up" - Music Center of Montenegro will be performed.
The contemporary dance performance "Giving Up" based on the motifs of Miloš Crnjanski's "Novel about London" premiered on June 7, 2024 at the Adriatic Dance Festival in Budva, and then at the opening of the season of the Music Center of Montenegro in Podgorica.
"The ballet performance "Giving Up" was based on the motifs of Miloš Crnjanski's famous work Roman about London. This performance depicts the situational metamorphosis of a subject who, by force of circumstances, is displaced from his essential environment into a foreign and unaccepted environment. The resistance of one identity structure to another results in the loss of control over the course of fate, the loss of emotional harmony in partner relationships, as well as the loss of faith in the opposite, cultural, non-inherited code, alienated dictates The play has a double exposure: social and personal degradation, and the lighting of the main character through the choreography and direction is complex. Through sometimes ironic and sometimes harsh transpositions of the soul, the characters are led away from hope, from the belief that the world is created according to the measure of good and justice to a Russian couple who met on Crimea and under the force of war escaped to Western Europe expecting salvation, not thinking that this was their tragic choice and the path to suffering. The play has a double exposure: social and personal level of degradation, and to that extent the illumination of the protagonist through choreography and direction is complex. Aleksandar Ilić and Mario del Monaco set up a concept that, through sometimes ironic, sometimes difficult and cruel transpositions of mental states, leads the characters from hope to surrender, giving up love, dreams, and faith that the world was created according to the measure of good and justice. The story coincides with current events in Europe. It tells about a Russian couple who met in Crimea and, under the force of war, escaped to Western Europe expecting salvation, without thinking that this was their tragic choice and the path to suffering."
