The chess league was opened on behalf of the Government of Montenegro by the Minister of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, saying that by organizing this event, the National Chess Association, the local administration and the new club confirmed their commitment to the development of this sport and the affirmation of Herceg Novi as a city of chess.

"Herceg Novi once again confirms its commitment to this ancient game, which knows neither borders nor differences, which teaches us patience, strategy and respect for the opponent", Vujović pointed out.

As she said, this event is important for chess players, but also for all those who believe that culture and sports together build a strong society: "The Ministry of Culture and Media will continue to support initiatives that promote the values of knowledge and fair play, especially when they take place in environments that nurture togetherness, such as Herceg Novi."
