In honor of the city, the Herceg Novi Theater and the fans of the theater: the monodrama "In Praise of Folly"

For four decades, the Herceg Novi Theater has proudly carried the name of its city and joins every city celebration, especially the City Day and the Day of Liberation in the Second World War.

It is a coincidence, if there are coincidences, that on October 31, the October Days of Herceg Novi end with the premiere of the monodrama "Pohvala Ludosti", and the Herceg Novi Theater marks 40 years since the first premiere, when on October 31, 1984, "Milan Vuković" Elementary School performed " Style exercises" by Raymon Keno, directed by Momir Mićunović.

Another beautiful coincidence is that the Dutch humanist and philosopher Erasmus of Rotterdam, whose most important work is PRAISE OF MADNESS, was born on October 28, a date celebrated by Herceg Novi.

Milovan Mićo Lalović chose that sharp satire in which Erasmus speaks with irony about the limitations of his time, especially spiritual, social and church circumstances, to mark his 40 years at the Herceg Novi Theater. He also adapted the text, and the direction was entrusted to our fellow citizen Slađana Vujović, who also chose the music," the Herceg Novi Theater announced.

Erasmus of Rotterdam did not offend anyone with his satire and irony, but remained consistent in his humanistic love for Truth, Man and God. Because of his literary and philosophical work, but also his way of life, he is considered the most important personality of European humanism. Life's optimism, critical outlook and implacability towards hypocrisy emerge from him and his works. At the same time, he is tolerant of human weaknesses and troubles, and because of all this, he is considered a forerunner of enlightenment. Erasmus of Rotterdam died in Basel on July 12, 1536.

The team that gathered around the preparation of the monodrama POHVALA LUDOSTI produced by the Herceg Novi Theater includes costume designer Jelena Vasiljević, production assistant Lidija Petrona, video content is signed by Ernesto Kolarić, and graffiti by Daria Ilić Vujović.

Director Slađana Vujović points out that "in this multi-layered adaptation of the famous Renaissance work by Erasmus of Rotterdam, the main character - Madness - benevolently, through comedy, illuminates the essence of human weaknesses, which are nevertheless necessary for us to be happy. At first glance, a merciless criticism of the society of the time, the author's thoughts show a deep understanding of human nature and its driving motives. It could be said that in this work are the roots of psychological science that will begin to develop several centuries later."

In the adaptation for the stage, we find echoes of modern life and features of universal and unchanged human nature, and therefore this adaptation exudes modernity and invites the audience to engage and interact, it is a "Praise of Madness" for the 21st century, genre multimedia, for all target groups.

"Proud of our 40 years, proud of our audience, we invite you to the Park Hall, to the premiere of the monodrama PHOVALA LUDOSTI on Thursday, October 31 at 8 p.m.," the Herceg Novi Theater emphasizes.
