As part of the jubilee thirtieth edition of the Herceg Novi April theater festivities, on Saturday April 26, starting at 8:30 p.m., on the stage of the Park Hall, the Herceg Novi audience will be presented with the performance "People of Wax".
At the 29th Yugoslav Theater Festival "Without Translation" in Užice, the play won five "Ardalions": for the best play, for the best direction, for the best female role, for the best costume design, for the best young actor and the POLITIKA Award "Avdo Mujčinović"
In addition, the play was awarded at the 8th "Theatrical Spring" festivals in Šabac, the 17th "Golden Villa" in Prijedor, the 26th "Petar Kočić" Theater Fest in Banja Luka and the 73rd Festival of Professional Theaters of Vojvodina.
"This Pirandelian trilogy raises the question of where the border is between real people and dramatic characters, "guardian saint" and "bastard writer", "ideal mother" and "abuser", fiction and factography, "professional deformation" and "mental pain". In today's world, it is really rare that someone is so brave as to completely expose himself to the world and so skillful to expose the world around him, like Mate Matišić. Following his courage and telling his story, each of us finds something in the text that concerns us. A kind of shifted realism allowed us to be as brave as the author and play with the dramatic flow in which the imagination becomes more real than the document, and the reality more insane than any imagination.
The director says that it didn't take him long after the first reading of this play to see that the right place for its staging is the National Theater of Sombor. The characters seemed like they were written for the ensemble cast, from great lead roles to effective cameos. Soon, he adds, he could no longer read it without imagining how exactly the actors of this theater pronounce that text..."
