The anniversary of the sailors' revolt in Boka Kotor was marked on Saturday, February 1, in Đenović, with an honorary float of members of the Bokel Navy from Herceg Novi, Kotor and Tivat, laying of wreaths, a lap of honor by the sea and a procession through that place on the Herceg Novi Riviera.
The act of honor in honor of sailors, who have been a symbol of resistance for more than a century, began with the presentation of a report to the chief administrator of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Nenad Đorđević.
This was followed by a procession of the Boka Navy, Đenović Local Music, members of the Cultural and Artistic Society "Sloga", dignitaries, representatives of the Đenović Local Community and locals to the house of Vranković, the place of the rebellion, where the captain of the Boka Navy - Herceg Novi branch, Jakov Jakša Andrić, laid a wreath.
The laurel wreath was lowered into the sea and placed on a memorial plaque on the building of the Đenović Local Community, the chief administrator of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Nenad Đorđević.
The commemoration of the Sailors' Rebellion was attended by the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary, Mira Vuity, as well as the Commander of the Navy of the Army of Montenegro, Capt. frigate Milan Jevtović.
Recalling February 1, 1918, the chief administrator of the Municipality, Nenad Đorđević, pointed out that at that time the sailors violated military and war laws, but they affirmed human and divine laws, calling for peace, a just society, and just relations between nations and states.
"They were a glimmer of hope, they announced that the much-desired peace would come and showed their clear attitude that they do not want to go to war, but to live in peace with their neighbors as well as with other peoples and countries." Today's gathering, commemoration of this date and commemoration of those who participated and those who died on that occasion, is a clear indication that their heroic act cannot and will not be forgotten," said Đorđević, thanking the participants of the Boka Navy, the Cultural and Artistic Society "Sloga" and Local Music Đenović.
The ceremony is traditionally organized by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, Boka Navy 809 - Herceg Novi Branch and Local Government Đenović, in memory of February 1, 1918, when the sailors' mutiny broke out at noon on the ships "Sankt Georg" and "Gea". About 6,000 sailors of the Austro-Hungarian war fleet took command and hoisted red flags on about 40 ships in Boka. The rebellious sailors stood up against the war of conquest led by Germany and Austria-Hungary and against the poor living conditions on warships.
