The initial conference of the "SUSTOUR" project was held

In Drniš, on March 10, in the Great City Hall, an initial conference was held where the project "Sustainable Tourism for Local Development - SUSTOUR" was presented. The leading partner is the City of Drniš, and the others are: Šibenik-Knin County, the Tourism Organization of the Municipality of Herceg Novi and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the West Herzegovina County with headquarters in Široki Brijeg.

The project aims to encourage sustainable economic development, social inclusion and innovation through the promotion of cultural heritage and the strengthening of sustainable tourism activities in the Adriatic hinterland.

The mayor of Drniš and the representative of the leading partner, M.Sc., took part in the conference. sc. Josip Begonja; Šibenik-Knin prefect and representative of partner 1, Ph.D. Marko Jelic; head of the Sector for EU, regional and national funds of the Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi and representative of partner 2, Tonka Tomašević; Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the West Herzegovina County and representative of Partner 3, Daniela Perić; and the head of the Administrative Department for Economy, Finance and Social Activities of the City of Drniš, Ivana Sučić.

- The city of Drniš secured its participation in co-financing of 15% from national sources by the Ministry of Regional Development and EU funds through a public call for co-financing of EU projects at the regional and local level. I would also like to point out that in the last ten years, the City of Drniš has implemented over twenty-five projects that are co-financed by the European Union, and that this project is one of four projects that are realized through cross-border cooperation between the Republic of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro - said M.Sc. Josip Begonja, mayor of the town of Drniš.

- As prefect, I always had the opportunity to speak only about good things here in Drniš. This is a great pleasure because this kind of cross-border cooperation shows that we all have the same goal: the development and preservation of the area in which we are located. Marko Jelic.

- The tourist organization of Herceg Novi accepts challenges and participates in such worthwhile projects with particular pleasure. This is just one of the proposals that was applied together with the City of Drniš, and the second in order that was approved for financing by the EU, through cooperation with the same City. Co-financing in the amount of 15% was provided by the Tourist Organization of Herceg-Novi from its own sources. We are proud of this successful partnership and from call to call, well-rated joint applications. Herceg Novi is a small medieval town, located at the entrance to Boka Kotorska, which is recognized as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and at the foot of Mount Orjen, the highest mountain of the coastal Dinarides. As such, this Mediterranean city has become an attractive, popular tourist destination, but mostly in the warm part of the year. That's why we always find room to improve our tourist offer, through the strengthening of cultural and rural content, so that the city is recognized as a year-round vacation destination. Through SUSTOUR, we are sure that we will be one step closer to that goal - said Tonka Tomašević, head of the sector for EU, national and regional funds in the Herceg Novi Tourism Organization and project manager at SUSTOUR.

- This project has one clear goal for us, which is the promotion of sustainable economic development, social inclusion, innovation and the promotion of the cultural heritage of our cross-border area. For us, this project is very important because it brings concrete and long-term benefits for our county. We will do our best to show ourselves as serious partners and participants - said in her speech the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the West Herzegovina County, Daniela Perić.

At the end of the conference, the head of the Administrative Department for Economy, Finance and Social Activities of the City of Drniš, Ivana Sučić, presented to the attendees the planned activities of each partner, presented the project in more detail and concluded that this is just one in a series of those that will be realized in the future.

The city of Drniš has submitted a project within the framework of the Interreg VI-A IPA Program Croatia - Bosnia and Herzegovina - Montenegro 2021 - 2027. The total value of the project is EUR 1,908,830.30, of which co-financing was approved in the amount of 85%, i.e. EUR 1,622,505.74. The project started on September 15, 2024. and will last 30 months.
